General Motors are all set to make a mighty step forward in the Indian automobile market by launching a new sedan, that belongs to the C segment by the mid of 2011. This new sedan, Chevrolet Sail is expected to have much more features in it and the performance as well as the stylish look of this new car is going to be a major highlight of it.

This new sedan, Chevrolet Sail features a 1399 cc, 4 Cylinder in-line Petrol engine that will provide a maximum power of about 94 Bhp and a maximum torque of about 129 Nm. Any official details regarding the mileage and the top-speed of the vehicle is not yet released and also, currently there is no chance for it's diesel variant to reach here on the Indian roads.

This 2011 Chevrolet Sail in India, is expected to be priced around Rs 6 lakhs/- (ex-showroom Mumbai).

Cruze Comes To Town: Chevy unveils 40-mpg Eco model and RS package


Chevrolet will use the 2010 New York Auto Show to reveal a few more details about the production Cruze sedan going on sale this fall. Specifically, the Big Apple is where Chevy will formally unveil the high-mileage Cruze Eco model and RS trim package (inset). The Chevrolet Cruze Eco is propelled by the new turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec inline four-cylinder. This engine, combined with a six-speed manual transmission, is not only the most powerful unit available, it's also expected to yield a hybrid-like 40 miles per gallon on the highway. In order to help achieve that lofty number, the Cruze Eco gets drag-reducing shutters that close off the lower grille at higher speeds. Also contributing to the car's elevated fuel efficiency are a deep front air dam and under-body panels. The 1.4 turbo is rated at 138 horsepower and a healthy 148 pound-feet of torque.

NEW YORK – At the New York Auto Show, Chevrolet reveals the compact 2011 Cruze
Eco. This high-efficiency model is powered by a 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine
with variable valve timing that achieves an estimated 40 mpg on the highway when
combined with a six-speed manual transmission. Cruze Eco is expected to deliver
the best fuel economy in the compact segment, while offering midsize car
presence.

"The Cruze Eco delivers hybrid-like efficiency without the price tag," said Jim
Campbell, U.S. vice president Chevrolet marketing. "Along with the Volt electric
vehicle, it demonstrates how Chevrolet is working to bring new products to
market that range from gas-friendly to gas-free."

Chevrolet also shows an optional RS sport appearance package for the Cruze LT
and LTZ trim levels.

Cruze is the first in a family of all-new Chevrolet small and compact cars
designed to offer excellent fuel economy, outstanding quality and top safety
ratings. Cruze models for the United States and Canada will be produced at the
Lordstown, Ohio assembly complex. In February, Chevrolet announced the addition
of a third shift at Lordstown that will add 1,200 workers to support a smooth,
fast and flawless ramp-up of Cruze production. More than $350 million has been
invested to re-tool the plant and add new, state-of-the-art manufacturing
equipment.

"This investment helps secure the best possible manufacturing footprint to react
to market demand and deliver vehicles faster to our customers," said Campbell.
"We believe Cruze is the right car at the right time for American consumers."


Cruze Eco details


Featuring a 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine with variable valve timing, the
Cruze Eco is designed to be the most fuel-efficient model in the lineup,
delivering an estimated 40 mpg on the highway with the standard six-speed manual
transmission. City fuel economy, as well as estimates for the Cruze Eco equipped
with an available six-speed automatic transmission, will be finalized closer to
launch.

The Eco achieves greater fuel economy using a number of features that enhance
its aerodynamics, minimize weight and reduce rolling resistance. Details
include:

* A lower front grille air shutter that closes at higher speeds to improve
aerodynamics and opens at lower speeds to optimize engine-cooling airflow

* The upper grille has more "closeouts" to improve aerodynamics

* A lower front air dam extension, extensive use of underbody panels and a rear
spoiler enhance aerodynamics

* A lowered ride height improves aerodynamics

* Unique 17-inch lightweight aluminum wheels

* Ultra-low rolling resistance 17-inch Goodyear tires.

The axle ratio on the manual-transmission model is also optimized for fuel
economy, while helping the car deliver confident performance. Chevrolet
estimates the Cruze Eco will deliver 0-60 mph performance of about 10 seconds
with the manual transmission and 9 seconds with the six-speed automatic.

The Cruze Eco will be available in the fourth quarter of 2010.


Cruze RS details


Complementing Cruze's sporty proportions is an optional RS appearance package
for the LT and LTZ trim levels, which bolsters the car's styling with unique
fascias, rocker moldings, rear spoiler and fog lamps. An uplevel instrument
cluster is also part of the package and includes chrome accent rings in place of
the standard silver finish, as well as opaque cluster bezels that allow the
cluster's ice blue backlighting to shine through – providing a sporty nighttime
appearance.

"For customers who want even more personality and presence in their vehicle, the
RS appearance package builds on the already bold face and coupe-like proportions
of the Cruze," said Michael Simcoe, executive director, North American Exterior
Design.

Midsize presence in the compact segment

All Cruze models offer the spaciousness and amenities of a midsize car, combined
with segment-leading features and details that challenge preconceived notions
about what a compact car can be in North America.

Along with the Eco, the 2011 Cruze will be offered in LS, LT and LTZ trims.
Standard and available equipment includes:

* Ten standard air bags, including frontal, front-seat side-impact air bags,
roof rail head curtain, rear-seat side air bags and new front knee air bags

* Bluetooth, USB connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and navigation system

* Standard OnStar with one year of Directions and Connections service

* MacPherson strut front suspension and Z-link rear suspension, with 16-, 17-
and 18-inch wheels

* Standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing,
traction control and anti-lock brakes

* Fuel-saving, rack-mounted electric power steering

* Unexpected levels of quietness, smoothness and refinement for the segment.

All models share an interior characterized by upscale materials and a lengthy
roster of equipment usually found in larger and more expensive vehicles.
Available technologies include Bluetooth and a navigation system.

Cruze's 1.4L Ecotec turbo performs like a larger engine when needed, but retains
the efficiency of a small-displacement four-cylinder in most driving conditions;
it is standard on Eco, LT and LTZ models. Rated at an estimated at 138
horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm), it enables a cruising
range of more than 500 miles (800 km). Cruze will lead the way for Chevrolet in
the use of small-displacement, turbocharged Ecotec engines that are highly
fuel-efficient and power vehicles that are fun to drive.

Standard on LS models is a 1.8L Ecotec four-cylinder rated at an estimated 136
horsepower (184 kW) and 123 lb.-ft. of torque (166 Nm). Both engines are
designed with fuel efficiency in mind, including technology such as variable
valve timing that optimizes performance and fuel economy.

Backing the Cruze's engines are six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Each contributes to excellent fuel economy.

Chevrolet engineers have already logged more than 4 million miles in quality and
durability testing worldwide, making Cruze one of the most real world-tested
products prior to a U.S. launch. It is backed by Chevrolet's

Chevrolet Corvette C7 To Utilise GM's Global Design Strength

GM is about to try something new: making Chevrolet's Corvette appeal to international markets. The General is soliciting designs from all ten of its styling studios, meaning that more than just American-market brains are weighing in.

Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design, said that Chevrolet will draw from the General's global talent pool in designing the new Corvette.

Welburn said that the global approach to the new Corvette - a Chevrolet icon traditionally designed entirely in the US - will give the sports car an international flavour and a stronger appeal for younger buyers both at home and in the European market.

2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition


GM has closed the gap between its flagship Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Zo6 by introducing the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Cabon Limited Edition model.
With production limited to just 500 examples, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon combines the road-holding and braking of the ZR1 with the naturally-aspirated engine of the Z06.


The limited edition will be distinguished by Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers, black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels, black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter. It will be available in only two colors: Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue.


Inside, the Corvette Z06 Carbon is finished in a combination of leather and suede complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen.
Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest with suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors.

When the 2006 Corvette Z06 was introduced, it represented the closest connection to the Corvette race cars ever. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 closed the gap between racing and production even further. This year, Corvette continues its tradition of track-to-street technology transfer with the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition.

“Designed to further incorporate technology developed through racing, the Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette’s first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet General Manager. “With a limited production of 500 units, this car is a must-have for the true Corvette collector and driving enthusiast.”

The Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is another example of the expanded Corvette line-up. Five years ago, customers had the choice of a Corvette coupe or convertible. With the addition of the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1, Corvette enthusiasts now have more choices than ever.

“For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer. “For technical tracks like Laguna Seca, the Z06 Carbon could shave up to three seconds off the Z06 lap time.”

This limited edition Z06 will boast Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers. These powerful brakes were first introduced on the ZR1. Black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels complement the car’s Michelin PS2 tires. Other mechanical features include Magnetic Selective Ride Control for the first time on the Z06 and enhanced cooling. The car also features a special carbon pattern engine cover.

The Corvette Z06 Carbon will be available in two colors: Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06’s dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift. For track events, customers can also install the Euro-styled racing numbers that come with each car.

The Z06 Carbon’s ebony leather and suede interior is complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen. Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest. The suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors add to the luxury of this limited edition Z06.

An optional Z07 performance package that includes the mechanical upgrades introduced on the Z06 Carbon can be added to a regular 2011 Z06. This package also includes Competition Gray 20-spoke wheels and all the chassis and cooling upgrades.

The CFZ Z06 carbon fiber package includes black carbon fiber rockers, splitter and roof panel with the full-width body color spoiler. It can also be purchased with or without the Z07 package on regular Z06 models.

The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, as well as the new Z07 and CFZ Z06 option packages will be available in late summer.

The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox styling won’t change beyond some new exterior color choices and perhaps a fresh wheel style or two. It’ll continue as a four-door wagon with a one-piece rear liftgate. Styling highlights include a single-horizontal-bar grille that’s nice interpretation of Chevy’s strong family face. Bold wheel arches, a raked-forward stance, and the illusion of wrap-around tailgate glass complete a clean, confident look. Equinox’s exterior dimensions are smack dab in the middle of the midsize-SUV field. But its 112.5-inch wheelbase is the longest in its competitive set. Wheelbase is the distance between the front and rear axles and key to how much space a vehicle can devote to passenger room. The long wheelbase not only provides Equinox passengers with generous leg room, it plants the wheels close to the edges of the body. That benefits ride quality and promotes an athletic stance on the road. General Motors reskins the Equinox for sale as the GMC Terrain and also borrows some of this engineering for the slightly smaller but more upscale Cadillac SRX. All are crossovers, so-called because they combine SUV traits, such as elevated ride height, with car-type unibody construction. Unibody means body and frame are essentially one unit. Old-school SUV design employs truck-type construction in which the body attaches to a separate frame. Unibody design is lighter in weight to improve fuel economy and handling, although it’s less suited to heavy-duty towing or hauling. The 2011 Equinox should return in four trim levels, base LS, volume 1LT, slightly plusher and 2LT, and top-of-the-line LTZ.

The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox will again come with a laudable array of standard features -- even in base LS trim. An impressive selection of luxury amenities kicks in as you ascend the model line or peruse the options sheet. Every Equinox comes with head-protecting curtain side airbags that cover both seating rows and are designed to deploy in a side collision as well as when sensors detect an impending rollover. Also standard is GM’s OnStar assistance with complementary one-year service. It includes automatic crash response and enables OnStar personnel to unlock the vehicle remotely or even diminish the engine’s power if your car’s been stolen. Power windows, locks, and mirrors will again be included in the base price of every Equinox. So will air conditioning, keyless remote entry, and tilt/telescope steering wheel with audio controls. Bluetooth cell-phone connectivity will likely continue as standard on 2LT and LTZ models and optional on LS and 1LT. Two-tone leather upholstery, USB iPod interface, and an audio unit with hard-drive music storage are among available features. A navigation system, rearview camera, and dual-screen rear-seat DVD entertainment also are optional. The 2011 Equinox will again be among the few SUVs in this price range to offer a power liftgate as well as a remote engine-start system that also activates the climate-control and optional heated seats. Base wheels should again be 17-inch alloys with 18-inch alloys available at extra cost on the LT models and the LTZ. The 2011 LTZ will likely repeat as the only Equinox with body-color bumpers and chromed door handles and the only one available with optional chrome-clad 19-inch alloy wheels. 

The speedometer and tachometer are housed in side-by-side rectangular housings that look a little misshapen, as if their plastic was melting. It’s reminiscent of the sad-eyed binnacles in the Chevy Camaro. It looks no better here and, like in the Camaro, the gauge faces can be partially obscured by the steering wheel rim.We’ll quibble with distracting sun reflections off the chromed gear-shift collar, but Equinox’s control layout is otherwise hard to fault. 

A helpful screen between the instrument panel binnacles displays such useful data as instant and average fuel economy and distance-to-empty. The central stack of dashboard controls is attractive and neatly organized. Soft-blue ambient cabin lighting accentuates the center-console cupholders and door pulls, while most gauges and controls are crisply lit in complimentary colors.That lighting effect, thankfully, is tasteful, and the quality of Equinox’s cabin materials exceeds expectations, too. Even the 1LT model dresses up with a contrasted-color stitching effect on seats and door armrests. The fabric upholstery is a sturdy, modern tech-weave, and leather upholstery is available in a two-tone that’s sporty without being overdone. Padding on cabin panels is rationed, but few ring hollow and most surfaces have a nicely grained, matte finish.

Ford Edge: Due for a styling facelift and a revised engine lineup for model-year 2011, this five-seat Ford makes a selling point of its advanced infotainment gadgetry. The tech is marketed as the MyFord system and centers around a dashboard LCD touchscreen and software developed in conjunction with Microsoft. Ford also aims for suspension upgrades that would help the 2011 Edge handle with more agility than its overweight chassis has been known for.  Improvements to its subpar fuel-economy ratings of 15/22 (16/24 with AWD) also is a critical goal. Room and comfort should remain in the plus column. A base price range of $26,000-$34,000 is in the cards.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the range-topping performance model in the Corvette lineup and is widely regarded as one of the best performance bargains on the planet. Although the Z06 has a price tag north of $70,000, it offers the kind of performance normally reserved for cars costing twice as much.

At the heart of the Corvette Z06 is a 7.0L LS7 engine. Born out of Chevrolet's racing program, each V8 engine is hand-built at the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan and features a dry-sump lubrication system, titanium valves and connecting rods, forged-steel crankshaft with six-bolt main bearings and a high-profile cam.

The result is a Society of Automotive Engineers-certified 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Despite its massive amount of power, the Corvette Z06 does not incur a federal government gas-guzzler penalty.

The Z06 package also includes several other performance features. To keep weight down, the Z06's front fenders, wheelhousings and floorboards are made of carbon fiber. To further cut weight, Chevrolet gave the Z06 an aluminum body structure -- shaving off 136 pounds from a Corvette Coupe -- and a magnesium roof structure and engine cradle. The weight-savings measures give the Corvette Z06 a power-to-weight ratio of, besting the Ferrari F430 and Porsche GT3 RS.

Massive six-piston front and four-piston rear disc brakes provide more than enough stopping power to haul the Corvette Z06 down from speed.

The interior of the Corvette Z06 remains relatively unchanged from the standard coupe, but does offer specific badging and a few unique styling cues.

New corvette’s 2010 GT2 C6.R Is Based On The ZR-1 [Video]


General Motors has revealed their second-generation Chevrolet Corvette C6.R racer, which is based on the 2010 Corvette ZR1. The new 2010 C6.R will be powered by a 485-horsepower 5.5-litre V8 engine and it will compete in 2010 American Le Mans Race Series.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-8 with 485 hp (362 kW / 492 PS), instead of the ZR1's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 638 hp (476 kW / 647 PS). To compensate for the 153 hp (114 kW /155 PS) missing ponies, the Corvette Racing team put the C6.R on a strict diet. It weighs 2745 lbs (1245 kg), which is 579 lbs (263 kg) less than the standard ZR1.

As specified by GT rules, the C6.R uses many production-based components from the ZR1. Carry over items include the body design, aerodynamic package, aluminum frame, chassis structure, and steering system.

Besides the new engine, the C6.R features a revised suspension, steel brake discs (instead of carbon-composite rotors), a 26.4 gallon fuel tank (29 gallons in ALMS E85R spec), and 18-inch wheels outfitted with Michelin racing tires.

New Corvette Racing C6.R and Production Corvette ZR1 Represent the Culmination of More Than 10 Years of Technology Transfer

Updated C6.R to Race in 2010 Le Mans, 50 Years After Corvette's First Appearance in Legendary Endurance Race

DETROIT - Corvette Racing's second-generation C6.R will be powered by a new 5.5L production-based V-8, to compete in the new unified GT class in the 2010 American Le Mans Series as well as the GT2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The updated C6.R and the Corvette ZR1 on which it's based represent the strongest link yet between a production Corvette and the modern Corvette Racing team. Both cars are well-equipped to compete on and off the track with showroom competitors including Aston Martins, BMWs, Porsches and Ferraris.

Corvette has a long history of production-based endurance racing, making its first appearance at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1956, and its first appearance at Le Mans in 1960. Then Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov leveraged the racing program to improve the production Corvette, as evidenced by the development of heavy-duty and high-performance components and the introduction of the race-bred Z06 option on the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray.

The transfer of technology between racing and production cars resumed with the start of the modern Corvette Racing program in 1999. More than a decade later, it's impossible to imagine one team without the other, according to Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer:

"Simply put, without Corvette Racing, there would not be a Corvette Z06, much less the ZR1. And, without the foundation of the Corvette C6, Z06 and ZR1, the Corvette Racing team would not be the dominant presence in production-based racing."

1999 - 2004: The C5-R acts as a catalyst for Corvette performance

Corvette Racing campaigned the C5-R from 1999 through the end of the 2004 season. The first-generation car scored 35 victories in 55 races, won its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring three consecutive years, posted three 1-2 finishes in the GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and earned four consecutive ALMS manufacturers championships for Chevrolet.

It also served as a catalyst for Corvette performance.

In 1999, the fifth-generation Corvette C5 produced 345 horsepower from its 5.7L V-8. Leveraging the powertrain technologies developed for the C5R, Corvette brought back the hallowed Z06 moniker in 2001, packing a 385 horsepower 5.7L V-8.

In addition, the C5-R helped shape the sixth-generation Corvette, introduced for the 2005 model year. Corvette Racing's influence could be seen in the C6 Corvette design, which featured flush headlights for better aerodynamics; a single, large grille opening for the engine air intake, radiator, and brake cooling; a lower coefficient of drag; and low 3,179 pound curb weight. Lessons from racing were also integrated in the 6.0L LS2 V-8, the most powerful standard Corvette engine to date, with 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. As a result, the C6 Corvette delivered unprecedented performance, including a 186-mph top speed, acceleration from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and quarter-mile runs in 12.6 seconds at 114 mph.

2005 - 2009: The co-development of the C6.R and Z06

The C6 Corvette served as a foundation for the joint development of two new, high-performance Corvettes: the 2006 Corvette Z06 and the Corvette Racing C6.R, introduced in 2005.

Both cars were powered by 7.0L small-block V-8 engines, with dry-sump lubrication systems, CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads, titanium valves, forged steel crankshafts, and plate-honed cylinder bores.

For the Z06, the collaboration translated into 505hp, 470 lb.-ft. of torque, and searing performance: 198-mph top speed, acceleration from 0 - 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, and quarter-mile runs in 11.7 seconds at 125 mph. Racing's influence was also evident in the Corvette Z06 use of lightweight carbon fiber front fenders and wheelhouses, and aerodynamics package - including a front splitter, air extractors behind the front wheels, radiused trailing edges on the wheel openings, brake cooling scoops, widened rear fenders, rear diffuser, and spoiler.

For the C6.R, homologation on the Z06 translated into 42 wins, four consecutive ALMS drivers and manufacturers championships, and three victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

2010: Introducing the second-generation C6.R, based on the ZR1

In the 2010 American Le Mans Series, Corvette Racing will compete in the series' production-based GT category (formerly GT2) and in the GT2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a second-generation C6.R that is homologated on the Corvette ZR1.

The GT rules require the use of many production-based components, making the ZR1 and C6.R the closest street and racing Corvettes since the 1960s.

Introduced for the 2009 model year, the ZR1 is the fastest, most powerful car ever produced by Chevrolet. To deliver 638 hp, the LS9 V-8 engines are hand-built using many of the processes developed by the race team. To deliver a 205-mph top speed, the ZR1 aerodynamics package also utilizes race technology - including wide carbon fiber front fenders with dual vents, a full-width rear spoiler, and a front splitter.

The updated C6.R utilizes the ZR1 body design, aerodynamic package, aluminum frame and chassis structure, steering system, windshield, and other components.

Aluminum frame: The new Corvette C6.R is built on the same aluminum frame rails that underpin production Corvette Z06 and ZR1 models. Other production chassis structures in the race car include the windshield frame, the hoop around the rear of the passenger compartment, the door hinge pillars, the drivetrain tunnel, the firewall, and the floor pan.

Steering system: The new Corvette C6.R utilizes the production steering column out of the ZR1, with a fully adjustable steering wheel, and production rack-and-pinion steering rack.

Body profile: The Corvette C6.R race car is now virtually identical to the Corvette ZR1 street car in appearance, as GT rules require production-type fenders with simple flares to accommodate wider tires.

Aerodynamics: The new C6.R utilizes the full-width, production rear spoiler from the ZR1, and a production-based ZR1 front splitter that extends 25mm, in contrast to the 80mm splitter allowed under the GT1 rules. Although the aerodynamics package does not produce the same levels of downforce as the GT1 car, the C6.R is more predictable over a wide range of speeds.

Where the C6.R and ZR1 differ significantly are in situations where GT rules actually prohibited the use of the more sophisticated ZR1 components. For example, the ZR1 is equipped with carbon-composite brake rotors, while GT regulations require ferrous (steel) brake discs. And, where the ZR1 utilizes a 6.2L, supercharged V-8, the C6.R will use a naturally aspirated small-block, production-based 5.5L V-8.

The Corvette C6.R race cars' 5.5-liter Chevrolet small-block V8s are developed, built and maintained by GM. The Corvette C6.Rs' LS5.5R is a naturally aspirated race engine, based on the Corvette Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 engine (which in turn was developed with the 7.0L race engine used in the C6.R GT1 cars), built on production cast-aluminum cylinder blocks.

Pending GT2 class regulations specify a maximum displacement of 5.5 liters, the reduction in displacement to meet this requirement was achieved by shortening the crankshaft stroke and reducing the cylinder bore diameter. In accordance with the regulations, the race engines have two 28.8mm diameter intake air restrictors. The LS5.5R engines are equipped with dry-sump oiling systems, CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads with titanium intake and exhaust valves, and sequential electronic port fuel injection. The race engines use E85R ethanol racing fuel in the ALMS and E10 fuel in Le Mans.

Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday

Clearly, Corvette Racing's success in production-based endurance racing has played a significant role in improving the performance of the production Corvette. In addition, as the racing and production cars have become more closely linked, Corvette Racing has also shown a positive impact in Corvette sales.

"Corvette sales tracked directly to customer leads at ALMS races have doubled from 2005 to 2009," says John Fitzpatrick, Chevrolet Performance Cars marketing manager. "This proves what we have heard anecdotally from other Corvette owners: Watching production-based Corvettes win against legendary marques like BMW, Porsche and Ferrari, on legendary tracks like Sebring and Le Mans, makes Corvette all the more desirable."
